I’ve started to learn Udacity Product Manager Nanodegree Program last week. My goal is to keep posting what I’ve been studying every week. If you want to know what the program is, you can see the program information here.

This Week I Learned

1. Welcome to the Product Manager Nanodegree Program

  • Lesson 1 | Product Manager Nanodegree Program Introduction

2. Product Strategy

  • Lesson 1 | Introduction to Product Management
  • Lesson 2 | Role of a PM (Ongoing)
  • Lesson 3 | Problem Identification
  • Lesson 4 | Vision & Strategy (~12/20)
  • Lesson 5 | Communication Skills
  • Project | Pitch a Product Vision ( Due by Dec 28th )

Lesson 1 | Introduction to Product Management

1) What is Product Management?

  • Product Management is all about answering questions about what, for who, why, and when specific products are built.
  • How to build product is not be answered by the PM, but should be considered and found with the team.

2) Why Product Management is Important?

  • Product Management makes sure that the team is spending their time on meaningful, worthwhile problems by solving problems that exist for real users by creating products that people want.

3) A Quick History of Product Management

+) The History and Evolution of Product Management ( BY MARTIN ERIKSSON ON OCTOBER 28, 2015 )

4) Overview of Course & Learning Objectives

Lesson 2 | Role of a PM

1) Lesson Intro

  • The Role of a PM > Understand the purpose of the PM role
  • What a PM Does > Understand what a PM does during the different stages of the Product Development Cycle
  • Who PMs work with > Identify key cross-functional partners and customize communications based on understanding of their key priorities
  • Identifying Requirements > Describe different methods for gathering requirements
  • The Roadmap & PRD > Define the components of a PRD and how to complete each component including documenting requirements

I’ve already taken lesson 2. But I didn’t finish my study note all. In my defense, it took more time to organize the note than I expected, so I just post what I have done so far. I’m sure I’ll finish it this week.

What I have studied last week is only covering basic information about PM. I look forward to learning how to write a more specific PRD(Product Requirements Document) and road map this week.
